Seven steps to solo satisfaction

Single or home alone and need a pleasure release? Try your hand at a little sexual solitaire…

1. Don’t think too hard

The more you pressure yourself to have an orgasm, the less likely you are to climax,” explains Davenport. Recent studies suggest that for a woman to come, the part of the
brain connected with anxiety needs to shut down. So relax! Forget the end goal and, instead, focus on enjoying the ride.

2. Get in the mood

Firstly, remove all potential distractions. Switch off your phone and TV, and pick
a time when you have the house (or at least your room) to yourself, without fear
of your flatmates or family bursting in.

A messy area strewn with piles of dirty washing isn’t the most libido-lifting environment, so clear your space of junk, turn down the lights, and put on some sexy tunes.

3. Get warm and wet

If it helps you unwind, pour yourself a glass of wine, then run yourself a warm, steamy bubble bath. This will not only relax your body and mind, but also increase blood flow to your pelvis, which is necessary to orgasm.

Use your wet, sudsy hands to explore and massage your body. Linger on your breasts and inner thighs with gentle circular movements.

4. Use your imagination

Your climax depends as much on mental arousal as it does on physical stimulation, so block out your everyday stresses and transport yourself to fantasy land. Whether you’re in a jacuzzi with Ryan Gosling, or on the boardroom table with your boss, close your eyes and let your hands wander south as you conjure up the ideal carnal scene.
Having trouble slipping into the zone? Get inspired by reading an erotic book or watching an MA-rated flick. It doesn’t have to be a porno – just something with a hot-and-heavy sex scene, and some smokin’ naked flesh.

5. Explore and experiment

After drying yourself with a towel, massage your body with a sensual body oil and retire to the bedroom. Tempting as it might be to reach straight for your vibrator, hold back – what’s the rush? “Your fingers are ideal for learning the type of speed, pressure and stroke that works for you,” explains Davenport.

Experiment with friction by rubbing gently up and down over the clitoral area, then try using a circular motion. Focus on the pressure by pushing down on the area with your hand. Move around the entire section and you’ll eventually work out where your hotspots lie.

Slip one of your fingers into your vagina, and use some of your own wetness as a lube. Leave a finger or two inside the vagina and swirl around to arouse your G spot, while using the other hand to manipulate the clitoris.

6. Feel the buzz

Ready for an explosive climax? Introduce your vibe, starting with a low-speed setting, and press it gently against your clit. Increase the pressure, mix up your moves and alternate the speeds to learn what really gets you going.

Once you’re completely aroused, slide the vibrator inside you and thrust away, while using your fingers to massage your clitoris at the same time for a double delight.

If you’re using a Rabbit Vibrator (one with a rotating head and shaft, and “ears” that simultaneously stimulate the clitoris), use the ears alone first, until you feel wet, then turn off the ears and slip the shaft inside.

Switch on the rotating head to stimulate your G spot. Experiment with the vibrator’s various rotation settings until you find the sensation that works best. Then, when you’re finally ready to be sent over the edge, turn the ears back on for a super-charged final act.

7. Prepare to sex it up

The more you practise, the easier it’ll be for you to reach climax and the more intense your orgasms will be. Once you learn to understand the sensitivity of your clitoris, and how to hit your G spot, you should be able to master the elusive multiple orgasm.

As your confidence builds, take things to another level by dressing up in whatever makes you feel sexy, whether it’s your raunchiest lace G-string or your knee-high leather boots. Research suggests that watching yourself can increase arousal, so position yourself near a mirror, or in front of a switched-off TV, and put on your best one-woman show.
