Beating boredom

If the hot dates of the early days of your relationship have faded into DVDs on the couch, it might be time for a fun injection

Elly Klein, author of Men Are Like a Box of Chocolates (ellyklein.com, $19.95), says that it's important to fend off boredom as you could begin to take each other for granted. "Each day is an opportunity to remind your partner why he's with you - because you're adventurous and care enough to keep your relationship interesting."

We rounded up some fun and scientifically proven (yes, really) date ideas to ensure your relationship survives the boredom bomb.

Ride the fear

Hit up the rides at an amusement park with your man for a dose of excitement - and a better sex life. A study by The University of Texas found that when the body is scared or excited, it can confuse the adrenalin rush with sexual attraction.

Play doubles

According to Klein, hanging with another couple can improve the dynamics of a regular one-on-one date. "Other couples bring a fresh vibe to the table. Watching each other be charming, witty or engage in intelligent conversation with others can be like an underrated form of foreplay. You'll be dying to be alone with each other by the end of the date," she says.

Embrace free time

Sure, exxy dinners are nice, but you shouldn't see the amount of money spent as an indication of the value of your relationship. According to a study by Brigham Young University in the US, the opposite could be true. It found that couples who ranked money and having lots of things as important were overall the unhappiest in their relationships. So start embracing low-cost, high-fun dates like a picnic in the park or bowling.

Just dance

German scientists have confirmed what we've all known for ages: ladies love a man who can dance. They discovered that women found good dancers more attractive and masculine. So even if your man isn't quite Channing Tatum on the dance floor, hit up a nightclub to get his laughter, love and two left feet moving.

Grab a coffee

After that gooey feeling? Head to a cafe. Psychologists from Yale University and the University of Colorado found that the physical warmth you feel from your piping hot latte will result in equally warm feelings for your coffee date.
