Contraceptive pill for men on the horizon

Taking the contraceptive pill has been the domain of women since it became available in the 1960s. But that could be about to change with US researchers close to developing a pill for men that prevents the production of sperm.

12:18PM, Jun 8

Researchers from Columbia University gave mice a drug to stop the production of vitamin A, which is necessary for generating sperm, Live Science reported.

The study found that the mice became sterile during the 16-week trial periods, but were fertile again soon after they were no longer being given the vitamin A-blocking medication.

The mice showed no other side effects while taking the medication.

There's no word yet on when the drug would be available for sale.

It sounds like something from a B-grade Rob Schneider movie set in 2036! Men setting reminders in their phone to take their pill? Imagine that.
