Singing at the top of our lungs to ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ will never be the same again after the tragic news on the weekend that Whitney Houston died at the far-too-young age of 48.
If you missed it, the singer was found unconscious in the bath of her Beverly Hills hotel room and was pronounced dead a short time later despite efforts to revive her.
The last few years of her life were tarnished by reports of drug and alcohol abuse, but before her downhill slide Houston was, and still is one of the most successful female acts of all time.
In fact, in 2009 the Guinness World Records named Houston the most awarded female act of all time.
Whitney rose to fame in 1985 with her self-titled album, which went on to sell 25 million copies. Her amazing voice earned her 11 number-one hits, including I Will Always Love You which featured on The Bodyguard soundtrack.
Over the course of her career she was awarded two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 22 American Music Awards and a whopping 30 Billboard Music Awards.
Houston’s success paved the way for modern day solo female artists like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Beyonce.
Whitney, we will always love you.
