Having decided from an early age that I didn’t want to follow in my family’s footsteps and get a PhD, I pursued my real passion –writing. And here I am. After work experience and an internship at CLEO I was given my first full-time job in journalism, and what a way to start! Some stuff about me… I can’t drink a can of coke without tapping it three times, I’m obsessed with US politics, and I would love to one day be the proud owner of two sausage dogs called Franzle and Kaiser.

*on behalf of Verena today!*
My name is Alana and I'm in Year 11. About two months ago I organised to do work experience at CLEO magazine. As I'm from Melbourne, I flew up to Sydney with my parents and we're all staying near the magazine's Park Street offices.
I didn't know what to expect when I first arrived. I was very excited just to be able to get a glimpse of what really goes on in a magazine. I wasn't sure what the offices would look like, or if they would be similar to what you see in movies.
The offices are very nice and everyone works extremely hard. I love how the walls are covered in the history of the magazine, with every cover they've published pinned along the walls.
At the office there is a book called the "flip book", which is a mock-up of every page that is going to be in the next edition of CLEO. It was just like the book in the movie The Devil Wears Prada, and it was very exciting to see.
There is also random letter on one of the pin boards. It included a picture of a male saying how much he resembled someone famous — which was very amusing.
All in all, the CLEO team are exceptionally friendly people and it would be a great place to work at. The process of making a magazine is really interesting and I can see that a lot of time and effort goes into each issue.
