Office Blog

I started my journalism career as a workie at Yen magazine. A bunch of phone answering, photocopying and transcription-typing later, I found myself writing for a local paper (for free, of course), the Sun Herald (I was paid, things were looking up!) and then eventually for various financial and consumer mags. Now I'm back as web editor in a woman's title (yay!) - it's a bit of a full circle, really.

Moments ago, the CLEO gals huddled in front of the office tele – jittery in anticipation and keen to soak in the historically significant moment: Senator Barack Obama has declared victory!

He’ll also become the first African American president of the United States.

After months of campaign, weird celebrity endorsements and media speculation – it seems that the people of America have united in their decision. A landslide win for the Democrats ensued and from the excited expression on everyone’s face – it’s clear that there’s a scent of momentous change in the air.

Even if you’re not usually a follower of foreign politics, this has been one exciting election to watch. As this blog goes live, Barack Obama is standing on a podium and making his victory speech.

Are you watching the celebration across America? How do you think Obama’s win will affect Australia? Drop by and tell us what you think!

  • I have been following this election from the start and originally didn't think Obama had a chance against Clinton let alone the Republicans but as I learnt more about him it became obvious that he is the person the country needed, someone to inspire them. I watched his speech and cried. I'm so glad the person in the white house will no longer be an idiot.
