Hmmm… defining your life in 70 words or less is difficult. And even harder now I’ve wasted 18. Ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to write – I even had a rather embarrassing outfit that I thought made me look more like an author (it involved a crisp white shirt, long floral skirt and a pair of glasses.) So I feel really lucky to be part of the CLEO team and get to write about anything and everything on a daily basis. Hooray for fun employment!

Working at CLEO the upsides are many: movie screenings, endless chocolates and a magical place called “the free table”. But ask anyone on the team the worst part and odds are they’d say deadlines.

It’s super easy to get insanely stressed so that’s why I jumped at the chance to go on a Q Station yoga retreat (qstation.com.au). Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was parts of me were anxious that I hadn’t even realised.

Our yoga instructor, Skye Baird (skyelifestyle.com.au), told us all to remove our tongue from the top of our mouth – an indicator that you’re stressed – and mine had been permanently affixed.

Apart from the informative and invigorating yoga and meditation sessions there was also time to take a bike ride around the gorgeous natural surrounds of the Q Station where I spotted kookaburras, rabbits, ladybugs and lizards – a very tranquil experience for a city girl like myself.

Another cool thing was that rather than the spartan diets offered on some retreats (think teeny tiny portions and food that could double as Styrofoam packing material) the meals on offer were still healthy but also delicious and filling.

It sounds a bit cheesy to admit but after just two days I actually did feel a lot more Zen, centred and in control of my mind – and went home with my tongue happily resting on the bottom of my mouth.

Check out the next Q Station yoga retreat June 11 -13, 2010.
