I started my journalism career as a workie at Yen magazine. A bunch of phone answering, photocopying and transcription-typing later, I found myself writing for a local paper (for free, of course), the Sun Herald (I was paid, things were looking up!) and then eventually for various financial and consumer mags. Now I'm back as web editor in a woman's title (yay!) - it's a bit of a full circle, really.

We’ve all been following the news closely on the Victorian bush fire in the past few weeks. While most of us are lucky enough to be unaffected by the tragedy – it’s devastating to watch the plight of those who have lost loved ones or their homes and possessions during the fire.

More than 180 lives were lost and over 5000 people were left homeless after the fire.

It seems Aussies aren’t the only ones who want to reach out and help. Singer P!nk, who is due to start her Australian tour in May, has announced today that she would be donating $250,000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

“I've been really affected by the media images of the tragic bush-fires in Victoria

“My heart goes out to all those who have suffered so much in these circumstances,” PInk says.

“There’s little anyone can do at such a long distance away but I wanted to make a tangible expression of support.”

Pink says she hopes the donation will help the rebuilding of lives and communities in the areas affected.

  • I think it's an absolute tragity and for someone to actually delibrately light those fires is so horrible in every way imaginable. I can't beleive what he could have been thinking at the time. I hope he gets what he deserves. I also think that Australia has done an amaising job in coming together and helping Victoria, all I cvan say is jeep up the good work.
