I am obsessed with weird and wacky beauty products. Half the time I don't even use them –– I just love having something different sitting on my shelf. It's also a great convo starter when friends come over and use my bathroom. They're like "ooohhhheeee … what is this hand cream I don't know about?" Maybe that's the exact reason for my preference: they're more exclusive than your Clinique, Chanel et al.
Anyway, whatever the reason, I have decided to share my top five beauty products that originated all round the world. A selection of creams for the face, hand and body with one word to unite them –– cult. And I'm not talking the crazy-religious type!
From Japan comes Yu-be Moisturizing Skin Cream. Buy it at www.meccacosmetica.com.au
Climbing Mt Fuji? You're not? Damn –– we had just the product for you. Luckily, Japan's bestselling heavy-duty moisturiser, Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream, is as perfect for city dwellers as it is for extreme mountain climbers (and yup, it's actually used by mountaineers). In addition to glycerine, vitamins E and B2, there's also camphor to soothe minor skin irritations. Okay, so the camphor may remind you slightly of your grandma's wardrobe, but you'll soon get over it when your skin turns as soft as silk.
From Egypt comes Egyptian Magic All-Purpose Cream. Again, head to www.meccacosmetica.com.au for your dose.
When you hear someone touting an all-in-one beauty product that promises to single-handedly iron out wrinkles as well as smooth lumps and bumps, is your first impulse to turn and run in the opposite direction? We hear you. But this luscious cocktail of honey, olive oil and royal jelly really does plump, soften and heal every inch of your body. Perhaps it's the added "divine love" that makes its way into the ingredients list. We're tipping not. But whatever it is, this product is a true multi-tasker that'll lighten your beauty load.
From LA comes Nature Girl Botanical Face Moisturizer. Buy it online at www.nature-girl.com
We love products that speak to our inner flower child and the socially conscious collection from Nature Girl does just that. All ingredients are cultivated on small family-run organic farms to produce something that nurtures the skin while protecting the environment. Our skin loved the Nature Girl Botanical Face Moisturizer for its soothing mix of shea butter, safflower oil and sea algae and our senses delighted in its sweet summer blossom scent.
Finally, from Lebanon comes my personal fave, L'annine Hand & Body Cream. Buy it at www.kitcosmetics.com.au.
To soothe hands as tortured as our writers' minds, we needed to bring out the big guns and our new favourite cannon comes from Lebanon. The sweet-smelling L'annine Hand & Body Cream softens hands with absolutely no greasiness or residue. The packaging is not only super cute but the product is an all natural, hand-picked mix of aloe vera, papaya, avocado, ginger root and coconut.
