My first glimpse into the world of mags was when I was 15, doing work experience at NW. Following that I did a Media degree and interned with Cleo. Fast forward to an overseas trip, and an assisting role at a weekly mag, and five years later, I’m at Cleo once again. As Fashion Editor, I get to see all every fashion range to find the hottest fashion available. This means countless appointments with PR’s and designers, coming up with new concepts, organising fashion shoots, attending launches and parades.

Perhaps I’m only speaking for myself here, but our annual swimsuit party last week really highlighted a few crazy things we (or just me) do in preparation for a night out. (Click here to see more party snaps)
As the theme was ‘Miami Nights’, it was only a given that most of the girls in the Cleo office indulged in a spray tan the day before the event. And what better way than to have a mobile tanning booth set up in the office fashion cupboard!?
The rest of the day was spent avoiding any strenuous movements (perspiration is a tan hazard), wearing oversized clothes (skinny jeans, also a tan hazard) and keeping a mirror on hand to check out our constantly darkening skin (pocket mirror, tan essential. Who am I kidding, this is a constant essential).
But the real preparation for the evening was of course, styling my outfit. I had decided to wear a recently purchased Zimmermann dress, which, to put plainly, I am in love with. It’s a dress I’ve been obsessing with all season and couldn’t believe that I had in my hot little hands. Not only this, but I got it at a sample sale for a discounted price. Overly excited? I have tears of joy just typing this.
Trouble is, the dress didn’t look as amazing on me as it did in my head. In my mind I saw long legs peeking out from the full skirt, an ample bust filling out the top and cascading curls falling from my shoulders.
In reality – my B cup, short ass frame with mid length hair just didn’t cut it. But with a little help from the professionals, I tried making it work! A quick trip to my tailor saw the dress instantly hug my curves instead of drown them, and a pair of sky high heels gave me the height I needed to pull off such a full skirt.
And the hair? Well I certainly didn’t look like Gisele, but a few swipes with the curling tongs made me feel a little better.
Now, onto next year’s outfit..
