US health campaigners are coming up with creative ways to promote the use of the female condom. Some Chicago AIDS organisations have even coined the slogan “Put a ring on it” – taken from Beyonce’s song 'Single Ladies' -- to promote the concept of safe sex to women.
The latest version of the female condom is apparently a lot easier to use than its predecessor. It is made from a non-latex material and looks like a long column with a soft rings attached to each end (Pictured, left).
The female condom is used by pushing one ring into the vagina (a bit like inserting a tampon) while the other ring remains outside the body.
Anonymous users told CNN.com that although they might prefer to use the male condom, the female condom was easy to use once you knew how.
"It was a little strange to get it up there," Casandra, a health advocate, told CNN after testing it.
"In terms of inserting it, it was a little bit weird doing it in front of my partner. After it was in, it was OK."
Health groups are hoping that women embrace the female condom as a device to empower themselves and gain control over their contraception method.
Whether women embrace it or not, one thing is for sure -- we’ll never listen to 'Single Ladies' in the same way again.
Your say: Would you ever use the female condom?
