Hi. My name is Jo and I worked in a button factory the other day… OK – I didn’t really. BUT when I was in school, my friends sang this song to me and I think the button/fashion thing seeped into my subconscious, because all I wanted was to work at a magazine! Two degrees and a year frolicking overseas later and I was ready to start my dream. After dabbling on the web and trying my luck as a stylist, I’m now settled as lifestyle editor – a job that keeps me entertained, fulfilled and more importantly, happy!

If you’ve seen The Devil Wears Prada and How To Lose A Man In 10 Days, the magazine world looks quite glam. It’s not really as posh as the movies portray it (constant deadlines are a killer!), but one of the most exciting parts of my job is attending the product launches and parties.

Last week, I was at a launch I definitely won’t forget. I was chauffer driven to Mascot airport where a helicopter was waiting to take me to a beautiful old property, just past Camden. The flight was amazing – there’s nothing like a helipad to make you feel like a VIP! As we got closer to the destination the weather turned and things got a tad bumpy. Nonetheless, we arrived in time for a delish three-course lunch and presentation on the new Hyundai Sonata (a super sexy enviro-friendly car).

Feeling fat and happy, it was time to head back to the office but unfortunately, Mother Nature had other ideas! After an hour or two of waiting, we were told we wouldn’t be returning by helicopter as it wasn’t safe (hmm) and would instead be driven in one of the new Hyundais back to work. Maybe not so glam, I must say it turned out serving them better than helicopters- after all, what’s a launch if you don’t actually get to experience the product!
