Life got a little sweeter today when Cleo revealed the 50 finalists for this year’s Cleo Bachelor of the Year.

It turns out the modern woman favours talent in the kitchen over prowess on the field, with chefs leading the pack in this year’s 50 finalists for Cleo Bachelor of the Year, leaving Rugby players on the bench.

How we judged

“Unlike previous years, where the playing the field proved to be the preferred choice, where the finalist list was riddled with ‘men of league’, this year sees the rise men of more sensitive nature, namely talented young chefs, the likes of patissier Adriano Zumbo and celebrity chef Curtis Stone,”  said CLEO editor Sarah Oakes.

“Whether it is the success of the Masterchef Australia or that, as women, we have evolved to look past brawn and sporting talent, I am pleased to announce the finalist list for 2010 Cleo Bachelor of the Year is top heavy with lovely sensitive, creative types.

From musos to men in suits

Thespians and musos also feature strongly in the mix, including unlucky in love George Houvardas from Packed to the Rafters and Andrew Lees from Rescue: Special Ops. Men of a more musical persuasion include Rob Farnham (son of John Farnham), Dappled Cities bass player Dave Rennick, and ShortStack bass player Andy Clemmensen.

Also popular with the chicks and in the running for the title are the lesser-known, high-achieving, Jordan Son Nguyen, inventor of a thought-controlled wheelchair for the severely disabled, Royce Akers Editor of VICE magazine, Bondi short film director Francis Coady and Globe designer Rama McCabe to name a few.

Our judges

30 of Australia’s most fabulous women including Laura Dundovic (former Miss Universe Australia 2008), Kate Waterhouse, Bianca Dye, Maz Compton (Nova/MTV), Carla Bignasca (Bigsy from Austereo’s Hot 30), Fuzzy (Video Hits host) Lizzy Lovette, Sydney ‘it’ girls Sam Brett, Nikki Phillips and Pip Edwards undertook the ‘gruelling’ task of whittling down the list of more than 500 of Australia’s most eligible bachelors to our 50 finalists.
