Miley Cyrus announces engagement to Liam Hemsworth

That’s right, 19-year-old singer and actress Miley Cyrus announced her engagement to Australia’s very own Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth.

Miley tweeted that she is "looking forward to a life of happiness" after the news was officially revealed by US People magazine.

"I'm happy to share this news with you all," she tweeted several hours ago.

"I feel like all my dreams are coming true."

The exclusive images in People of the ring by celebrity jewellery designer Neil Lane reveal a 3.5-carat cushion-cut diamond ring, handcrafted in 18-karat gold with intricately carved diamond floral motifs.

But here’s the best bit: the centre stone is an antique dating back to the late 1800’s.

"It was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it’s unique and in its original form,” Lane told People.

“At that time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it’s fascinating to look at because it hasn’t been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic.”

Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song in 2009. With filming taking several months in a small town in the US state of Georgia, being the only teens around, it didn’t take long for romance to blossom.

The couple have had their fair share of ups and down, breaking up once for a month in August 2010 and again in November before reconciling.
