By now you’re probably familiar with Andrej Pejic, the Australian man who has modelled women’s clothing for some of the biggest fashion houses around the globe. You might also have seen male model Stav Strashko don a bikini in a commercial for Toyota this year.

In the past 12 months or so androgyny has been the toast of the fashion world, although it’s mostly been men bending the gender boundaries by working as women, not the other way around.

US woman Casey Leger has changed all that after being signed to modelling agency Ford – in the men’s division.

"As far as I know, there are no other women exclusively modeling as male models," Leger says in an interview with Time magazine.

She’s tall (6’2”), tattooed and has striking features, and could easily land gigs modelling women’s garb. But Legler’s career really took off when she wore male clothing in a photoshoot for a small indie fashion magazine. She caught the attention of Ford Models and was soon signed on the men’s board despite her gender being female, thought to be a first worldwide.

"We have very specific ways in which we identify ourselves as man or woman, and I think sometimes those can be limiting," Legler says.

"What I wish is that we all get to be exactly who we are."

Has Casey blazed the trail for more gender bending in the modelling world? Watch her talking to Time in the video.
