We're willing to bet most male celebrities have felt the prick of a Botox injection in the forehead, but it seems injectable fillers are increasingly being used by everyday dudes to fight the signs of ageing.
The rising 'bro-tox' trend has been confirmed by new statics from the US that show 300,000 men in the states received Botox injections last year.
While we don't have any figures for how many Australian men are going under the needle, a Sydney cosmetician (who chose to be anonymous) we contacted told CLEO her male clientele has increased considerably over the past 12 months.
"Many are 'blokey' men, not the kind you'd expect — builders, plumbers," she said. "These days it's like coming in for a haircut or a wax — people pop in on their lunch breaks."
So why have men become increasingly image obsessed? American plastic surgeon Dr Anthony Griffin told
Good Morning America in a recent report on the trend that just like women, men see perceived benefits to being attractive in an increasingly superficial society.
"It's still a competition in our society for looks and, you know, better-looking men get paid more, and they get prettier girls."
