Karl Lagerfeld called British singer Adele "too fat", but don't worry she's hit back at the Chanel fashion designer.
Have Your Say
"We want to know what you think! To tell us your opinion on this article, just add a comment below. "
In case you missed it, 78-year-old Lagerfeld delivered a backhanded compliment to the 23-year-old "Someone Like You" singer in comments made to a Paris newspaper this week.
"The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice," she said.
Ironically, Lagerfeld was once extremely over weight, losing over 40 kilos so he could fit into designer suits cut for slim-built men. Who is he to be pointng the 'fat' finger?
Now Adele has responded to Karl's insulting statement in an interview with People magazine.
"I've never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I'm very proud of that," she said.
Adele makes a good point — Karl's thoughtless comment not only offended the singer, but any woman of similar proportions.
Karl's comments have been heavily criticised. US PR maven Kelly Cutrone offered the slogan: American PR guru Kelly Cutrone added: "If you love Adele then boycott Chanel ."
Not only powerful — it rhymes. Well done Kelly.
Karl has since made a public apology of sorts to the singer.
"I lost over 30 kilos over 10 years ago and have kept it off. I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance," he said.
"Adele is a beautiful girl. She is the best. And I can't wait for her next CD."
It still doesn't completely explain his comments but we doubt Adele will get much more remorse from Lagerfeld.
