A new study revealed that for most men, the whiff of a newborn baby is nothing compared to the smell of bacon frying in the morning.
Results of a new UK online poll suggested that when it comes to favourite smells for men, the scent of a baby is not very high up on the list.
OnePoll.com surveyed a total of 4000 Brits and found that the smell of frying bacon is ranked seventh and petrol came 12th -- beating the whiff of a newborn, which trailed behind at number 18 in the poll.
The top performers include freshly baked bread, followed by the smell of crisp clean sheets and freshly mown lawn.
Cognitive and sensory psychologist Dr Pamela Dalton told UK's
Telegraph that each person's reaction to a particular scent can be vastly different.
''Smell has the power to revive the past and transport us to a happy time or place or remind us of a special person, evoking feelings of nostalgia and comfort.
''The link between scent and memory is very strong, and how we react to different smells is therefore very unique and dependent on who we are as individuals and our past experiences,'' she said.
Interestingly, the study also found that women prefer certain scents because they are "homely" or "remind them of loved ones", whereas men are generally more attracted to "exciting" and "invigorating" smells.
