I was never really interested in much at school. Except for art. And boys. And well, let’s face it, beauty products. So it only made sense that I pursued a career using my eyes and hands and my creative je ne sais quoi and not so much my brain! Turns out I am smarter than I think, as I managed to land a job at CLEO, where I get to combine my talent of art, boys, and love of beauty products. This can be demonstrated on the beauty pages, as well as during the infamous bachelor season.

Remember when
Top Gun came out? The green suits, the fast planes and how the total coolness of Tom Cruise made everyone, even the most girly of girls (aka, me) want to be a pilot.

My fantasy of bright lights, fast planes and buttons has never really ended, so when Ian from
flightexperience.com.au contacted us and asked who would want to learn to fly a Boeing 737-800, I practically trampled over everyone in the office to get the goods first. (Sorry Steph!)
I sat in the Captain’s seat of the simulator with a qualified pilot to guide me, and was told that I could pick out any airport in the world at any time of the day or night. Even the famous old runway in Hong Kong, which was known for needing skill and madness as pilots had to come in quick to avoid the surrounding mountains. Since there was no way I could die if I crashed, why not take the challenge and feel like Tom Cruise for a while!

My co-pilot took me through all the buttons, the controls, landing gear and everything else I needed to know to fly this baby. I’m not sure how much help I had, or if he just pretended that I did a fantastic job, but he awarded my landing a 10/10!
Exhilarated and feeling a little too proud of myself, I burst back into the office flashing around my certificate which states that I am able to fly a commercial aircraft – and had pictures to prove it. Hopefully they won’t think I am a bit on the crazy side for even suggesting that my title be changed to Senior Designer/Pilot.
